Was this India’s 9/11?  The best way of answer that is to try and imagine if this had happened in Pakistan, Iraq or Afghanistan, where this many people die on weekly basis if not as a daily routine.

Of course, in New York this owuld have been another 9/11. Controlled media would have made a three-ays carnage like this even more deeply traumatic for New Yorkers than the actual 9/11 attacks. Like Operation 9/11, media would have played its role in helping hte planners achieve their objectives. The 24-hour cable network news coverage would have been breathtakingly sensational. As we will see, it was not a 9/11 as such but the coincidences, the lies and deceptions, the pre-conceived conclusions before any real investigations, promotion of anti-Muslim sentiments and associated lies tell us that this is being turned into another 9/11: this time to target Pakistan.

The intelligence failure: It depends. Given India’s track record of oppression, occupation and human rights violation and the circumstances in which India is living, this kind of attacks are neither new nor unpredictable.

An intelligence failure is unexpected, partiuclarly when the US is playing a big brother role in the region and trying its best to drag India into the war of terrorism. In fact, India is already neck deep in organizing attacks on Pakistan from within the occupied Afghanistan. If the US intelligence apparatus with its global reach and its heightened focus on Pakistan couldn’t see this coming, let’s not delude ourselves with the propaganda that it was organized by Pakistan.

The operation has the fingerprints of an intelligence operation like 9/11. According to a Russian counter terrorist expert, the Mumbai terrorists “used the same tactics that Chechen field militants employed in the Northern Caucasus attacks where entire towns were terrorized, with homes and hospitals seized”. (Russia Today, November 27, 2008).

Pakistan. The reflex for India to blame Pakistan is so habitual that nothing can be taken serious wihtout solid evidence. And the Indian claim that it would produce evidence further shows it is covering the fact that it was an nternal matter. This is a good chance for India to shift attention away from its domestic problems. The US warlords would llike to further strengthen thier propaganda against Paksitan based on all the allegations that are coming out of India at this critical juncture. The fairy tale that is being propagated by the Indian media and its counterparts int he US does not stand up against impartial analysis of the situation and real investigations. The evidence overwhelmingly points in the direction of India’s intrnal problems.

Who knows for sure and what is the evidence that some or all of the attackers landed by dinghy and came off a trawler believed to have originated from Karachi. One fisherman, brought forward on Indian TV seems to have seen even content of the alleged hijackers inside their closed rucksakes. It is being reported that the “terrorists” were heavily armed and supplied with large quantities of ammunition. If it were so, how could they survive for so long without being detected.

It is another 9/11 from the stand point that propaganda repeats the same thoughts: the attackers were aremed with the ideological zeal to embark on a suicidal mission, but the combat training to engage in several days of fighting. So, the media trial has already concluded from where the “attackers” originated, where did they get training, how did theylanded in India, and how did they carry out the hwole operation. Like 9/11, there is no need for real investigation. The media is enough to conclude for us that Paksitan is the culprit.

Western media is going hand in hand with the India media. For instance, Associated Press reports, a ecurity analyst Sunil Ram (listen to his analysis that follows a short AP video news report here), the attacks occurred during a security “trough” in the days immediately following a relaxation of security levels at Mumbai’s hotels. So, the terrorists sitting in Pakistan knew exactly when the security is going to be relaxed. This is again like one of the 9/11 coincidences where the “hi-jackers” choose to attack the day when the US was making hi-jacking drills for mock terrorist attacks, or the 7/7 in UK, where the “terrorists” attacked, when the fake drill was actually underway. These co-incidences tell us a lot.

According to the propaganda reports, having entered the Taj hotel the attackers were not only able to swiftly secure the CCTV control room through which they could monitor the whole building and but they also needed to stay in communication with their planners in Paksitan - a good stupid move to implicate Pakistan in their terrorist act. Is it possible? If they had real planners sitting in Pakistan, were they stupid to implicate themselves and Pakistan by staying in touch through satellite phone even when the terrorist raids were in progress and the whole world was monitoring?

The Sunday Times rproudly reports the lies:

RR Patil, the deputy chief minister of Mumbai’s state government, said there was “proof” that the terrorists were on the phone to someone in Pakistan during the attack.

“All phone calls made by them were tapped. They were being instructed from outside regarding their movement inside the hotel - whether to go upstairs or come down or make a move left or right,” he said…

Kasav [the sole surviving gunman], who speaks fluent English, told investigators he and his fellow terrorists had trained at a camp at the Mangla dam between Pakistani Punjab and Pakistan-held Kashmir.

The group had travelled in pairs to Karachi where they boarded a boat. They had been told not to talk to each other on the journey.

Strategic implications. This is what seems to clinch the argument that this operation could not emanated from Pakistan, let alone conceived by elements inside the ISI. ISI officials could be anything but plain stupid.

At propaganda level we have what looks like the kind of nihilistic mayhem that we’ve come to expect from individuals whose ideological zeal is far stronger than their affiliation to a localized political cause. In reality what we have an an organized effort in which patsies were used in a way that even the culprits didn’t know who is using them and for what grand strategic objectives.

In fact, what we witnessed was a major move on President-elect Obama’s chessboard of foreign policy even before he’d had a chance to lay a finger on any of the pieces. This is an act of softening up the target - Paksitan - for him in two way: consolidating hismindset that the problem lies with Pakistan and providing him with yet another justification to invade Pakistan along the other justifications he had on his mind before declaring time and again that he will attack Pakistan after taking charge.

The Obama team had just signaled it wants to push for reconciliation between India and Pakistan so that Pakistani forces focused on Kashmir can be freed up to operate in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas bordering Afghanistan - for intensifying the war within Pakistan. The effect of the Mumbai attacks has been to accomplish the opposite: spread Pakistani forces thin as Pakistan now readies its forces to defend the Indian border and change Obama’s mind on looking for peace between the two countries. The way to peace goes through a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue and that is only possible with a just solution to the Kashmire problem. And a just solution will never go India’s way. India has a track record to dragging its feet on the UN resolutions on Kashmire and allowing Kashmiris to exercise their right to self-determination. As far Obama’s team is concerned,

Vice President Elect Joe Biden during the election campaign had warned America with foresight that “the people who… attacked us on 9/11, — they’ve regrouped in the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan and are plotting new attacks”. (emphasis added)

These are the same people who were behind the terror attacks in Mumbai.

These are also the same people who are planning to attack America.

Propagandists such as Tony Karon put it this way (See: The National:)

Police work typically begins with the question of motive, and this is plain: a ratcheting up of Indo-Pakistani tensions, possibly even threatening confrontation along traditional fault lines in Kashmir and elsewhere. The beneficiaries of an escalation of tension would be all those whose interests are threatened by Indo-Pak rapprochement – al Qa’eda and the Pakistani Taliban elements coming under sustained attack by Pakistani and US forces along the Afghan border; and hard-core elements of the military and intelligence community whose political DNA is orientated towards confrontation with India.

Not only would the Islamist militants want to reorient the Pakistani military away from counterinsurgency and towards confrontation with India – their common enemy – but so would elements in the military and intelligence services, who are hostile to deploying the army against the Taliban and who see the jihadi proxies as a key element of a continuing strategic rivalry with India.

Provoking India would not only realign the interests of the Pakistani military and the Islamists, it would threaten US efforts to reorient the Pakistani military towards domestic counterinsurgency, and to broker a deeper rapprochement with India – a development US analysts believe is key to resolving the conflict in Afghanistan.

But the reality is that the real benficiaries are the extremists in India and Israel. For the Indian extremists, the stakes between India and Paksitan will remain high and Kashmir will remain what they call Attot Ang, whereas for Israeli extremsits, the focus has again shifted to undermining Pakistan, dismentaling ISI and neutralizing its nuclear capability.
