Warships of Russia's Black Sea Fleet continue to carry out duty of maintaining security near Abkhazia's coastline, REGNUM correspondent cites Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces to state at a briefing in Moscow.

The General Staff's spokesman also informed that, in the situation of NATO's reinforcing its naval group in the Black Sea water zone, Russian Fleet started tracking action of the NATO warships.

Nogovitsyn reminded the audience that as early as in 1936, an international convention on the status of Black Sea was adopted. The document states the number of warships alien to the Black Sea water zone allowed in the water zone and order of their presence. According to the Convention, NATO cannot any longer continue increasing the naval force in the Black Sea.

The tonnage of the ships should not exceed 45, 000 tons. Their maximal time of presence in the Black Sea is 21 days, after which their rotation should be performed.
