Acting President Bronisław Komorowski has asked the government to prepare a strategy to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.

“I have appealed to the government to prepare for the head of state, for the November NATO summit in Lisbon, constitutions which will describe Polish postulates regarding a date for withdrawing Polish soldiers from Afghanistan,” Mr Komorowski said after yesterday’s National Security Council sitting.

The national strategy will be presented to NATO if that organization does not establish a joint strategy to end the mission.

The strategy should outline the withdrawal of the first wave of troops in 2011, with the withdrawal to be completed by 2012.
